As a mom, freelance writer/designer, and community organizer in Seattle, I enjoy working on projects that contribute to stronger communities and a greener planet. Previous neighborhood startups include Fresh Air preschool and Queen Anne Farmers Market. My daughter is a 7th grader at McClure.

About

Farm to Table Class is a pilot series that teaches cooking skills and concepts of food sustainability to tweens and teens, partnering with Seattle Tilth's Community Kitchens Northwest with resources from the national Nourish project. We invite "guest experts" to cook with the kids, nurturing community while expanding taste and career horizons.

Our class at McClure Middle School is organized by the nonprofit Associated Recreation Council and Seattle Parks Department in partnership with the Seattle School District. It is funded in part by the Families and Education Levy, and made possible by volunteers.

This blog will record our experiences with the hope that others are inspired to start similar programs. Bring back Home Ec!
